Google+ Hangouts for Low Bandwidth Connections

Posted on 04:13 by Unknown
En Français

Whether sharing a family event, or meeting up with friends far away, Google+ Hangouts helps people around the world connect with each other easily using multi-party video chat, for free.

For example, not long ago His Holiness the Dalai Lama wished Archbishop Desmond Tutu a 80th birthday via Google+ Hangouts.

This kind of high quality audio and video normally requires a high bandwidth internet connection which is either very expensive or not available in many regions around the globe.  We think that everyone should be able to Hangout and are therefore happy to announce that Hangouts now work better with lower bandwidth.

When you're in a Hangout, just open the settings, and select "Slow connection". This optimizes things to better suit a low bandwidth connection, aimed at giving you a better experience overall.  It’s also a great way to save data on limited internet plans or mobile connections.  This setting is available to all users globally, but we expect it to be more useful in countries where the internet is slower.

We hope this will give you the ability to share more special moments together with those you care about, and extend your reach across the world!
