Global Voices is Talking and we are Listening

Global Voices recently held its biannual Summit in Nairobi, Kenya bringing together over 300 bloggers and social activists from around the world. The Summit gives members of the Global Voices community a rare chance to meet in person and solidify relationships that are often mostly built in the virtual world, to reflect on their work and to chart the future direction of the community.  The Summit is also a forum to share experiences with a wider group on topics ranging from how small African nations can grab the world’s attention to the global rise of Citizen media.

Google participated in a panel on the role and responsibilities of online Internet giants where we discussed important issues like privacy and censorship, as well as the growing concern around mobile security, particularly for individuals and journalists at risk.

For Google, providing financial support for the Summit and getting involved in various Global Voices initiatives ties in to our aim of increasing African content online, making the internet relevant to African users, supporting the free flow of information, and engaging with the broader community to make sure that we serve our users in the best possible way.  To paraphrase the Global Voices tag-line,  the world is talking, and we are definitely listening.

Global Voices parle, nous écoutons

Global Voices
