Making the world’s information universally accessible and useful means making it available to people no matter what device they use. That’s why we are delighted to launch two new SMS products which we hope our Nigerian users will find useful: Gmail Chat SMS and Google Trader SMS. These services now make it possible to interact with Google via SMS.

Gmail Chat SMS allows Gmail Chat users, wherever they are in the world, to send free text messages directly from their computers to Airtel, GLO, MTN, Starcomms and Visafone subscribers in Nigeria. Gmail Chat SMS is available in over 30 countries around the globe including Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, and Zambia.

On receiving a Gmail Chat SMS message on your phone, all you have to do is simply reply to the message via SMS.  The message will be delivered to the Chat user in Gmail. Replying via SMS costs the same as a sending a standard on-network SMS message. Go to http://www.google.com.ng/mobile/sms/mail/ to learn how to use this free and easy feature.

Google Trader SMS enables mobile phone users to access the Google Trader marketplace in Nigeria via SMS.  Airtel and MTN subscribers can now search for items to buy, register items for sale, view the items they listed for sale, delete or change postings all via SMS. Google Trader is live in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda.

To get started simply text “start” to 6007. Trader SMS messages cost the same as sending a standard on-network SMS message.  When a message is sent to Google Trader, users receive replies on their phones at no extra charge. Use Google Trader to buy or sell products online via your mobile phone. Go to http://www.google.com.ng/africa/trader to learn more.

We hope you enjoy trying these new services out!
