More G-Africa Coming Your Way

Posted on 01:55 by Unknown
En Français

Just over a year ago, Google was invited by the Mauritius Board of Investment to host our first ever G-Africa event. They sponsored us to teach techies and businesses in the island nation how they could use Google to tap into the power of the web. The participants loved it and we loved it... so we thought, why not keep going?

Since that event in 2009, we have hosted G-Days in six additional countries and reached over 10,000 developers and businesses through the G-Africa initiative. Across Africa, from Kenya to Senegal and down to South Africa, we have witnessed the creation of some impressive apps, watched businesses put themselves online, and been excited by a flourishing tech community. We have been inspired by the number of barcamps, code clinics, hackathons, entrepreneur competitions and GTUGs that have springing up. Our goal in 2011 is to keep the momentum going.

With that in mind, we are proud to announce the launch of the G-Africa site, a place for you to see a calendar of upcoming Google Africa events, to be one click closer to the most relevant resources, and to find Google communities near you. Developers: you can explore the code labs, hackathons-in-a-box, code playground and top APIs. Entrepreneurs: you can get a complete menu of items to stand out in the digital crowd, communicate, and sell locally and globally.

The G-Africa site is also a way for you to Share Your Success with us - so please do! We will be putting up regular blog posts on this blog regularly to showcase top uses of Google tools by businesses and techies.

Check out the site, add the calendar to yours and share!
