Driving Directions in Kenya

Posted on 01:30 by Unknown
En Français

We've been working hard to make Google Maps more useful and relevant for web users in Africa - and it's an ever evolving process.

This began with making mapping data available on Google Maps for East Africa, followed by about 45 countries across the rest of Africa. Next we announced the launch of Google Maps for Kenyan users on their own domain, maps.google.co.ke, including enabling access to Google Maps for Mobile, which was a first for Africa. With this came additional features such as the Local Business Center (LBC), an easy way for local businesses to add their listings to the map and connect to potential customers.

Google Local Business Center Introduction

We are adding new features all the time, so we are pleased to announce another milestone for Africa and Kenya with the launch of Driving Directions for Kenya on maps.google.com and maps.google.co.ke.

E.g. Getting around Nairobi

Getting around Kenya

This essential tool is by no means Google's effort alone - we're enormously grateful to Kenya's active online cartographers who have helped us build these maps from ground up with the use of Google Map Maker, a tool that allows people to help create a map by adding or editing features such as roads, businesses, parks, schools and more.

This is one of our first African launches for directions based on Map Maker data! Over time we hope it will evolve, with your help, becoming more extensive and helpful in getting people from one place to another. Directions are also available on Google Maps for Mobile (GMM) so now your only excuse for being late is the traffic!
